How QAPLA Works
QAPLA is a 1:1 facial comparison tool. It does not search a database. It does not return a ranked list of possible matches. You provide two images. QAPLA compares them and tells you whether they are the same person.

Upload Reference Image
The investigator uploads a known reference image. This is the image of the person whose identity is established: a booking photo, a credential photo, an ID card, or any image where the identity is confirmed through other means.

Upload Trigger Image
The investigator uploads a second image: the trigger. This is the image in question. It may come from CCTV footage, a social media profile, a witness-provided photograph, or any other source. The question is: is this the same person as the reference image?
Technical DetailQAPLA processes both images and performs a facial comparison. The comparison runs in under five seconds. No image is stored after the comparison session ends.

Result
QAPLA returns one of two results. “Match Found” (displayed in green) with a similarity score. Or “No Match Found” (displayed in red) with a similarity score. There is no “possible match.” There is no ranked list. There is no probability range for the investigator to interpret. The tool provides a definitive comparison result.
Technical DetailThe similarity score provides granularity for the investigator's assessment, but the binary match/no-match determination is the primary output. This keeps the tool usable by non-technical personnel.
Face Detect: Additional Analysis
Face Detect
QAPLA also includes a Face Detect tab. Upload a single image, and QAPLA returns face detection results: confidence percentage, face bounding box, and facial attribute analysis (estimated age range, apparent gender, emotion scoring). Face Detect is a separate function from 1:1 comparison and does not require a reference image.
Face Detect is useful for image triage: confirming that a face is present and detectable in a CCTV still before running a 1:1 comparison. It also provides standardized facial attribute data for investigative documentation.
When Investigators Use QAPLA
QAPLA serves a specific investigative need: confirming whether two images depict the same person. The scenarios below are common in stadium and venue security contexts.
Post-Incident Identification
An altercation occurs in a concourse. CCTV captures the suspect leaving the venue. An officer pulls a still from the footage and compares it against a booking photo obtained from a warrant check. QAPLA confirms the identity in seconds.
Without QAPLA, this comparison is manual (side-by-side visual inspection) or requires submitting the image to a database search that returns unverified candidates.
Trespass Enforcement
A venue has issued a trespass order against an individual. The individual attempts to re-enter using a different gate, wearing different clothing, or with a different group. CCTV captures the person. QAPLA compares the CCTV still to the trespass order photo.
Trespass orders are only enforceable if the person can be positively identified. QAPLA provides the comparison documentation.
Missing Person Verification
An officer on a venue detail is alerted to a possible sighting of a missing child. A witness provides a description and a location. The officer obtains CCTV footage of the area. QAPLA compares the CCTV still to the missing person photograph from the NCMEC database.

QAPLA performs 1:1 comparison only. It takes two images and determines whether they depict the same person. It does not search any database. First, 1:1 comparison has a higher accuracy threshold than 1:N search because the algorithm evaluates a single pairing instead of ranking thousands of potential matches. Second, 1:1 results are easier to document and defend because the investigator chose both images and the tool returned a binary result. Third, 1:1 tools do not raise the same privacy concerns as 1:N gallery searches because no database of faces is queried.
